The treaty of Paris ended the American revolution was signed in 1783. However, tension between Britain And the united states did not end. Many issues continued to cause difficulties in there witch made it harder for them to get along and fix there relationship. Other difficulties between America and Britain are the impressment, Britain’s blockade, first nation alliance, and the influence of the of hawk.
IMPRESSMENT
In 1793 a war against France was some sort of Britains main priority. But the British were scared that the french troops sent by Napoleon might cross the English channel and start a war with England. Britain needed a navy to protect there shores. The conditions on British were poor. A lot of British sailors deserted and went to join the American merchant navy. A merchant navy is used to trade and business it’s not used for war. Britain started to stop American ships at sea and searched for deserters or sometimes they would just force American sailors to join the British navy. Impressment caused a lot of anger in the united states.
BLOCKADE
As a part of Britains war strategy, Britain used its navy to blockade Europe. The blockade did not allow countries to trade with France. It was supposed to hurt Napoleons war effort. The American economy suffered to because they lost a major marketing for their goods
FIRST NATIONS ALLIANCES
- After the American revolution, Britain tried to encourage first nations in the west to keep a large area of there own use and the British succeeded. From that the Americans could not expand there territory. The Americans blamed the British of encouraging the first nations to be hostile towards them. Also they believed that the British supported Tecumseh’s efforts to protect first nations land
WAR HAWKS
A more immediate cause of the war of 1812 was the war hawks. The war hawk was a group of politicians from the southern and western states they believe that the united states should expand its borders. They saw Britains north America and the first nations in the Ohio valley as obstacles in their way. The war hawks believed that they should take over those territories. President James Madison was influenced by the war hawks. On June 19, 1812, he declared war on Britain.
