Some of the key battles that happen in war of 1812 are; The battle of Chateauguay, The battle of Lundy’s Lane, The battle of Queenston Heights, and The battle of Put-in-Bay.
BATTLE OF PUT-IN BAY
The battle of put in Bay was held on the 19th of September 1813 on Lake Erie off the coast of Ohio. There were a total of 9 vessels of the United States navy defeated and captured. Six of the vessels were from Great Britain’s royal navy. This also insured American control of the lake for the rest of the war. In return this allowed the Americans to recover from the battle of Fort Detroit and to also win the battle of the Thames. This broke the Indian confederation of Tecumseh. The battle of put in Bay was the biggest navy battles of the war of 1812.
BATTLE OF LUNDY'S LANE
The battle of Lundy’s Lane was fought in 1814, over a time of five hours. Both sides suffered approximately 800 deaths and wounded. Most of the battle was fought in the night with Niagara falls thundering in the background. British fired on there on troops by accidentally cause they couldn’t tell who was who in the dark fores. Both sides claimed victory because neither side won or lost.
BATTLE OF CHATEAUGUAY
The battle of Chateauguay was fought on October 25, 1813. The battle began with the Americans planing to invade Montreal. They wanted to cut off the supply line to so they would have a better chance of winning upper Canada. The British were 8 times outnumber but believe it or not the Americans retreated. This was not a major battle, Montreal was still in British hands.
BATTLE OF QUEENSTON HEIGHTS
When Major General Isaac Brock left Fort George at 4 o’clock in the morning on the 13th of October 1812 he was awakening to the sound of heavy gun, 11 km away at Queenston heights. Though he did not have a full force to deal with the invasion, he took action. Brock was shot dead in the chest by a musket ball and died when he lead his force up the hills. His troops then withdrew to wait for coming reinforcements to arrive. By mid afternoon, the battle had begun its second phase. In stead this time, General Roger Sheffe led the British forces and militia. Joining the British forces a number of haudaudansee led by Ahyouwaighs; he was also known to some as John Brant. John Brant was the youngest son of Thayendanegea (Joseph Brant). Together the British and First Nation forces made the invading Americans withdraw. The American cause was not helped with their militia from Buffalo. New York as refused to fight on the Canadian side of the border. Many American citizens did not support the war of 1812 as strongly as the war hawks. The British forces did not loss many, but the Americans were taken prisoner. The number of prisoners was 958. The battle of Queenston heights was a very important defensive victory for the British forces.
